That is one of our goals. Electrocution is used in the Antirrabico of our city, and it is the most brutal thing one can imagine. Even if we offered to pay for the sedative they still wouldn´t accept because it is "too much work". We are working towards getting the funds to buy de required sedative plus have a qualified person to administer it, payed by us. And still when that day comes I know we will have objections by the people who run this horrible place.

That is really good news, my hope is to do the same in our area, the thought of any dog being electrocuted eats away at my heart.

AWESOME NEWS! The group that ZAPP started in Baja, called MHTA, Mexico for the Humane Treatment of Animals, has gotten Mexicali Animal Control to stop using Electrocution as the preferred method of euthanasia. Not only will they begin using sedation, but they will allow an MHTA member to check daily on this change of procedure. It's bittersweet, however, because in a perfect world, we wouldn't have to euthanize at all! Thanks to everyone who attended the meeting today and got the job done, big time! This is a Huge Win for Animals!!!

Oh, good, so glad to hear that! Of course, as you know, shelters here are having the same problem, and the economy has compounded the problem tenfold... at least RAP will keep the clinic going, they've done such amazing work there! I went to their site - all beautiful, "classic" Mexican dogs -unfortunately too big for my family, but hopefully when people see how gorgeous and up-to-date on all medical stuff they are, we'll get some "bites" :)

RAP isn't closing, they will still have a clinic and do spay and neuter clinics but the shelter was just too difficult. They had trouble getting people to work at the shelter and had too many dogs. CANDI and RAP will still do great things for Cancun's doggies.

Just wanted to mention that I joined another Ning site, Shelter Source, on Thursday as an added resource for shelters and rescues, and have made several friends already in Texas and California, thinking those closest to Mexico may be helpful at least as a first stop on the "midnight express" to new lives... I'll see if this pays off down the line, but I figure any networking has to be beneficial!

Alison, thanks for the email and the link to RAP... is it actually RAP that's closing? Que lastima... what a shame that is! I got one more response since yesterday - I'll forward this link to them and send you any new prospects that come in. Praying for them all...

Alison, I should have added that I myself could probably take on one more kid- as a family member, that is! I'm not a non-profit or 501C3 rescue, but if adoption is a viable placement, and if she has any females 15 pounds or under, age unimportant (my boys won't tolerate another male!), I'd love to discuss it further with you/her. Let me know - and thanks!
